Von der haus Gill Kennel is located in Northwest Ohio, in the rolling hills of eastern Auglaize county, approximately 6 miles from Wapakoneta. Located on 40 acres of land, with another addition 100 acres within 5 miles, it provides an somewhat isolated location to concentrate on our breeding and training programs. We are a breeding and TRAINING facility, unlike some people who only wish to sell a puppy. Our staff includes 9 people with a combined years of experience, training, working, and showing dogs of over 100yrs. We are a working kennel NOT a show kennel! Our staff trains 5 1/2 days a week in various locations, from basic obedience to police dogs, narcotics, explosives, and military dogs as well as helping the local 4-H dog club. We take training very seriously and work hard at it. We also work closely with 3 local Veterinarians to assist with health, genetics, and general kennel health. At Von der haus Gill, we take these things very seriously.

Our kennel consists of kennels for over 65 dogs, in 9 buildings. We also have heated kennels for our breeding stock and dogs for sale. We have 1500 sq. feet of climate control nurseries and whelping rooms as well as over 5500 sq ft.of indoor training facilities, room for 2 full Schutzhund fields, wooded areas, live fire shooting range, cars & trucks for search work as well as traffic stop training, rubble pile, 2 bathing areas, classroom, and dedicated training areas for teaching detector work and search work.

These commitments in time, money, staff, and facilities, is why we are Ohio’s top importer of police, military, and companion dogs!!!! Al is a member of OLEKA( Ohio Law Enforcement Canine Association) and was the original Director of Explosives Training and Accreditation of OLEKA. Al is a member of International Police Work Dog Association and is a Master Trainer of Patrol, Narcotics & Explosives, as well as past member of the By- Laws Committee. He is now a Master Trainer of Police Utility, Police Narcotics and Explosives Detection. He is also the past State of Ohio coordinator for IPWDA. Al is also a Master Trainer of Patrol, Narcotics, Explosives & Cadaver with the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers. He serves as Chairman of the Arrceditations Committe on the Executive Board with NAPCH. Al is also in 2007 receiving his Master Trainer of Patrol, Narcotics, Explosives & School Resource Officer with American Policae Canine Handlers Association and serves as their director of Training and Education.

At Von der haus Gill kennel, we have an exclusive source in Germany for dogs. They only sell to us, the German police, and the German Military. This allows us access to many dogs that would otherwise never come to America.

Our kennel is open to visitors, to come look and watch ( By Appoitment only).Our normal hours of operation for visitors and clients is Monday thru Friday 730AM to 430PM, Saturday 830AM to 1130AM only, NO Sunday appoitments. In January 2002, our Kennel was "suprise inspected" by the AKC. We passed with a clean and clear status, no problem. The Kennel has been inspected every year since and passed with a good report. Stop by and see our top notch facility, that is continuing to grow and develop every day.

At Von der haus Gill Police K-9 Academy, we offer a full service, on site dormitory, Built in 2001, it will opened to classes or clients in for training in March 2002.In 2006 we expanded the dorm and added 4 more bedrooms as well as another full bath. It now sleeps 8 people in private rooms.

This 2400 sq ft facility features, the following:

8 private bedrooms, with work areas
3 private baths
full laundry service
full service kitchen air conditioning
heat indoor kennels for students dogs while here
bathing facilities for the dogs
satellite TV
computers with internet service
weekly housekeeping service

Al is a Retired Deputy with the Allen County Ohio Sheriff's Office. He was an active K-9 Handler for over 17+ years. He has trained and handled 4 dogs for himself and helped with numerous other dogs. Below are some pictures of Susan, Matt, Melissa, Randy, and of course or Grandson- Joshua!

We have two grown children, Mrs. Randy Rentz(Melissa)&( and our new Grandson Joshua)of Columbus, Ohio and Matthew Gill of Wapakoneta. Matt returned home after 6 years active duty in the Air Force to help manage the kennel and assist with the training academy.
